We were delighted to welcome Safiye Arayan from CRASH and Neil Goulding from BAM to the site of our future UnityMK Hub in Wolverton on Monday.
The visit marked another important milestone in the development of the Hub, which will become the new home of our homelessness services following the announcement earlier this year that our current centre at Unity Park Station is set to be redeveloped by Milton Keynes Development Partnership.
CRASH, the construction industry charity, works alongside homelessness charities and hospices across the UK, supporting vital building projects that help people in need. We are incredibly grateful for their support as we transform a former railway training building into a dedicated space where people experiencing homelessness can access practical support, advice, and opportunities to rebuild their lives.
As a Patron of CRASH, BAM has also played a significant role in supporting the project. Through its Discovery Building project in Antarctica, BAM generously donated a substantial quantity of surplus construction materials that will now be put to good use within the redevelopment of the UnityMK Hub.
The donation includes:
More than 4,500m² of Fermacell High Performance Fibre Gypsum Building Board
100m² of Rocksilk Insulation
1,800m² of Isover Acoustic Partition Roll Insulation
More than 500m² of Kooltherm K16 Insulation
A range of drainage materials
In addition to the materials themselves, BAM kindly arranged for a telehandler supplied by BAM Site Solutions and an operator provided by Flannery Plant Hire to help unload and move the materials into the building.
Despite some challenging site access and a few stressful hours navigating deliveries, the operation was a success, and these valuable resources are now safely on site, ready to support the next phase of the redevelopment.
This generous support will help us reduce project costs and accelerate our plans to create a welcoming, purpose-built hub for people experiencing homelessness in Milton Keynes.
While this donation represents a significant contribution to the project, there is still much work to do. The redevelopment of the UnityMK Hub is a major undertaking, and we continue to seek support from businesses, trusts, foundations and individuals who share our vision of a city where everyone has access to the support they need to move forward.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to CRASH, BAM, BAM Site Solutions and Flannery Plant Hire for their generosity, partnership and belief in the vision of the UnityMK Hub. Together, we are transforming a disused building into a place of hope, opportunity and support that will serve Milton Keynes for years to come.
